You might wake up on day one feeling groggy and tired after traveling all day yesterday to reach your destination—we know how that feels—but the best way to combat jet lag and fatigue is to wake up early, get started, and start your vacation off on the right foot. With coffee, of course! Fortunately for you, there are many cafes and cool coffee shops right in the heat of Old Town that bring in people from all over the city and surrounding neighborhoods to get a fresh brew early in the morning.
On your first day, we recommend going to Alo Cafe to try international foods and pastries from around the world. We recommend ordering the pastrami three-egg burrito with cheese and crispy potatoes, lox omelet with smoked Nova Lox and cream cheese, or the super-sweet Waffle Barge deluxe, featuring Belgian waffles with grilled pineapple, banana, Nutella, whipped cream, and powdered sugar.
Feeling full of caffeine and energy post-breakfast? Good! Now it is time to head to the Old Town Farmers Market to wander around the local vendors, chat with farmers, pick out some organic produce, and purchase spreads, veggies, fruits, and pastries to bring back home later.
Day 2
Wake up bright and early to head to Arcadia Farms Cafe in Old Town Scottsdale to enjoy their strong cups of coffee and laid-back atmosphere. This lovely, high-end breakfast spot makes you feel like you are dining right by the Louvre in Paris rather than in Old Town Scottsdale, featuring French-inspired plates, flaky croissants, buttery pastries, and strong espresso cups. We recommend ordering the potato frittata with caramelized onions, peppers, thinly sliced Yukon potatoes, ceramic eggs, fresh herbs, Gruyere cheese, and Provencal tomato. Or, if you want something sweet, the peach French toast casserole with praline pecan caramel sauce and whipped cream is to die for.
After a Euro-inspired breakfast, head to Old Town Gypsy to check out this vintage and unique women’s clothing store that sells linen clothes, flowy items, and cool pieces that you won’t find in your typical chain store. We love this eclectic shop that offers the perfect date night outfit or flowy shirt for sitting outside and listening to live music in the summer months.
Day 3
Need a little pick-me-up early in the morning and tons of fuel before you head on a hike? We don’t blame you. Hikes in Scottsdale can be hot and demanding, so you need extra energy on reserve to power up those hills and reach the tallest peaks. And there is no better place to carb load than U.S. Egg Breakfast and Lunch Old Town Scottsdale on Scottsdale Road.
Once you are done with your huge stack of pancakes, continue your search for Old Town Scottsdale things to do and walk to Carmen, a beautiful boutique bookstore that sells jewelry, small items, trinkets, and clothes that are great for souvenirs. You can purchase postcards, posters, and journals to track your fun holiday excursions.
Day 4
On the fourth day of your Scottsdale adventure, head to a local favorite, Zuzu. Although this restaurant is located in a hotel, it churns out tasty plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you can head here any time you would like. Order one of the brunch specialties, like the carne asada breakfast burrito chock full with all of the fixings or the crunchy fried chicken and waffles with pork belly, hot honey, sweet corn, pickled chiles, and scallions for a little extra crunch on top.
After sitting at breakfast for a couple of hours, we love going to Leela Market to check out this expansive boutique-like store that offers room after room of modern clothing, cool home decorations, jewelry, shoes, and much more. You can even find authentic Native American-influenced pieces here, like arts, crafts, paintings, and engravings.
Day 5
If you are health conscious and want to wake up every day feeling refreshed and excited to see all that Old Town has to offer, you need to fuel yourself properly. That is why we think visiting Farm and Craft is a perfect spot for any meal of the day, especially breakfast, to kick the day off on the right foot. This health-conscious and sustainable food eatery in Old Town features organic food, farm fresh ingredients, and seasonal offerings, so you look and feel great. We love the harvest avocado toast, salmon poke bowl with marinated salmon and pickled cucumber, or steak and farro wrap with toasted farro, wilted kale, arugula, cheddar, mushroom, and caramelized onions.
Post-coffee, it is time to head to Brown Avenue Historic Sites to learn a little more about Old Town Scottsdale And really appreciate the history of this burgeoning city. The Old Adobe Mission is a building from the early 1930s that features modern celebrations, incredible architecture, and memorabilia dating back to the early 20th century.
Day 6
Try some Southern-influenced cooking during your time in Scottsdale, and head to Belle’s Nashville Kitchen for huge plates and a great time! This rip-roaring spot is perfect for brunch, cocktails, happy hour, or a few post-dinner drinks. For the morning, we love mimosas, French toast sticks with bourbon glazed cream cheese, and ‘pig candy’ — two bourbon-soaked bacon strips with pralines.

Day 7
If you are in a hurry on the last day of your Scottsdale getaways to see the last of the sights, it might be time for just coffee on the go this morning. Head to one of the many coffee shops, like Cartel Roasting Co. Sip Coffee and Beer, or Press Coffee on the waterfront to taste strong and sweet coffee that will give you a little pep in your step.
On the last day, it might be time to head inside and check out the sprawling museums and cultural areas present in Scottsdale! We love the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts for its new artwork and design. Culinary Scene
First things first, you’ll need a hearty breakfast and coffee to get the day started on the right foot. Luckily, there are tons of cute cafes and breakfast joints in Sedona that offer homemade food, tasty pours of coffee, and sweet treats to get you excited for the day to come.
Head to Coffee Pot Restaurant for traditional fare and Southwestern dishes that will leave you full until dinnertime. This restaurant is known for its famous ‘101 Omelets’ and gift shop that offers souvenirs for you to bring back home to your friends. There are literally more than 100 omelet combinations to choose from, so it might take a while to read the menu. However, we love the unique combinations, like the Italian sausage tomato and cheese, shrimp and cheese, imitation crab, avocado, mushroom, and cheese, or the cream cheese and green chile omelet to hit the spot for a morning treat. Or maybe your kids want the sweet pancakes or Belgian waffles with ice cream, fruit, and whipped cream. All of it sounds great to us.
Next on our list of Sedona Spring restaurants is the Secret Garden Cafe. This super cute and cozy spot is somewhere where you could sit and hang out for hours on end with an iced latte and a book in hand. We love eating healthy while on holiday, so try the famous deep dish quiche Lorraine or the open-faced veggie omelet with fluffy egg whites, bell peppers, sauteed onions, spinach, and creamy feta cheese.
For the next day, HP Cafe on State Route 89A is a fantastic spot to check out while you are on your way to the nearby Devil’s Bridge tourist attraction or the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park. This down-home American diner-style restaurant offers a no-frills alternative to the more upscale restaurant you see in today’s “foodie” culture. Order a standard plate of eggs, bacon, and home fries to hit the spot.
After a long day of hiking and exploring Sedona, it might be time to sit down for a nice dinner with your friends or family. Sedona offers many dinner spots ranging from little hole-in-the-wall options with cheap sandwiches to upscale eateries with five-course menus. The diversity here is what makes it so desirable to come for a vacation with your best pals or family members.
We love Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill for fine dining food, upscale ambiance, and unbeatable views. This incredible restaurant focuses on quality ingredients and unique creations that have earned it a spot on Open Table’s top restaurants in the state for multiple years in a row.
Start with some tapas to split with the table, like the handmade empanadas with portobello mushrooms, poblano peppers, and caramelized onions. Then, order mejillones con chorizo for a seafood starter, finished off with the gaucho plate, featuring chorizo-link sausage, Spanish butter beans, and pineapple criolla.
For a main dish, the meat is what really takes the cake. Order something from the ‘carnes a la parrilla’ menu to have the best meal of your life. Not sure what to get? The NY Strip, filet mignon, or Australian rack of lamb with cilantro mint and pesto are crowd favorites.
Another great spot to head to during your Sedona vacay is The Hudson. This typical American eatery offers incredible views, plentiful plates, and great drinks. The Hudson is a popular ‘neighborhood’ restaurant with a modern interior, incredible views over the desert, and tons of TVs for watching football games with your mates. They also have daily happy hours for unbeatable deals.
We loved the salted soft pretzel bread with brown mustard and Guinness cheese sauce to go with a pale ale and split with the table before our main dishes arrived. Then, try the fresh mozzarella bruschetta with tomato, basil, cracked black pepper, and balsamic syrup on a hot summer day. Or, if you want something heavier, the burgers, sandwiches, and prime-cut steaks are mouthwatering.
Lastly, the Hideaway House is a casual, family-friendly spot that churns out American and Italian dishes that will leave you full until the next day. We love the huge subs for splitting with the table and the wood-fired pizzas that pair well with the house glass of wine or an ice-cold IPA on a hot summer night.
Sedona Spring Activities
There is so much to do for a Sedona spring getaway that it can be hard to narrow the extensive must-do list to the top items!
We recommend going to see the biggest sights in the area, like Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock in the desert, to take incredible photos and witness the spiritual magic. Then, continue on during your nature-forward journey by taking a jeep tour throughout the desert and heading towards Boynton Canyon for a full day in the Sonoran Desert.
Hiking
If you are feeling really adventurous, you can take one of the longer hikes or bike trails through Sedona. The famous red rocks are super close to the city center, so you can easily get there with the proper hiking shoes and some water.
Some of the best hikes in Sedona and the surrounding areas include the Devil’s Bridge Trail via Dry Creek Road, Cathedral Rock Trail, and Fay Canyon. We love going on Fay Canyon for our first hike in the hot weather, as this short 2.5-mile trail is a short path with varied views that keep it interesting for people of all ages and interest levels. The scrambling at the end is the best bit!
Then, once you have conquered this short trail, you can move on toward more challenging trails, like Cathedral Rock. This hike isn’t hard, per se, as it is only 1 mile long, but you will still gain more than 500 feet in elevation as you try to get to the top of this incredible structure in the desert. Climb to the top of the rock to soak in the breathtaking views of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte.
Lastly, Devil’s Bridge is an absolute must-visit during your time here. Although this hike is short at less than 5 miles round trip, it will still give you a little bit of a challenge that gives you the chance to get in some fitness and break a sweat. We recommend going early in the day to avoid the crowds and see the sunrise. The incredible views and rocky trail make it adventurous and exciting.
ATV Tours
It’s time to put on a helmet and take a super-fast ATV ride through the desert if you are not a fan of walking and getting hot and sweaty. Use Arizona Offroad Tours to go to the nearby canyons or even cruise to the top of the Skeleton Bone Mountain!
Other ATV companies to use while you are in Sedona are Sedona ATV Rental, Sedona Offroad Adventures, and Arizona ATV Adventures. Then, for the main dish, you can’t go wrong with the Atlantic salmon with butternut squash and crispy brussels sprouts for a healthy option or the butcher’s meatloaf with mashed potatoes, buttered green beans, and brown sugar tomato glaze for a decadent main entree.

What could be better? We love the down-home diner vibe of this spot that churns out flapjack after flapjack of butter goodness.
Or, for the second day, head to Alo Cafe on East 1st Street, right in the heart of Scottsdale, for huge servings and friendly workers. We order the Monte Cristo with sour cream and triple berry jam on French toast, Croissant Cristo with sour cream, or the house-smoked barbecue pork loin with house sauce, two eggs any style, and toast when we come here. It is simply divine!
Do you need a dinner spot in Scottsdale after a long day of watching Spring Training? Luckily, Scottsdale and the surrounding areas have tons of cool pubs, bars, restaurants, high-end eateries, and outdoor venues that churn out tasty food, local produce, and yummy drinks.
We recommend going to Duke’s Sports Bar and Grill if you want a laid-back, athletic-focused venue, a neighborhood pub showing sports on the various flat-screen TVs, mouthwatering burgers, huge pores of beer, and free rides home to ensure you get home safely. Talk about a bargain! Order the cheeseburger and a pint of pale ale as you watch sports on the screens at the bar.

We recommend starting at the infamous Kierland Golf Course in the Sonoran Desert. What could be better than being on the putting green, looking at the red rock desert out of the cornea of your eye, and seeing the Pinnacle Peak in the distance? Try your best not to get distracted by the jagged peaks, breathtaking scenery, and the hills and valleys of the golf course. It is difficult! And make sure you marvel at the pristine care of the golf course. The fast Bermuda grass is famous around the world for its high quality, featuring a bright emerald color, flat condition, and a variety of holes for golfers of all abilities.

The next must-visit bar during your fun-filled vacay in Sedona is Sundowner, a popular bar and restaurant that is a fan-favorite to grab a late-night cocktail or beer with your friends or mates from out of town. This exciting watering hole has events every night of the week and fun activities, like karaoke, live music, pool tables, dancing on tables, jukeboxes, greasy pizza, and yummy double-stacked sandwiches. And, if you are a person who loves to end a night of drinking with dessert, make sure you get the cheesecake before you leave!
For those who want to pair a drinking session and a late night with great views of the nearby area, then the Olde Sedona Bar and Grill is a popular spot to start your evening. If you can’t get enough of the red rocks and the surrounding nature, this bar is the ideal perch for you to check out the sunset on the upper-level deck. Head here before the sun goes down, grab a snack, and sip on a cocktail as you watch the sunset from the upstairs patio.
The last bar that we love going to on a cold winter night is PJ’s Village Pub. This well-known establishment is a classic for locals to go to most nights of the week, making it a great spot for you to get to know other people, meet people from the area, and potentially make lifelong friends. We love the chilled-out and laid-back vibe of this pub, featuring large TVs for watching sport, live music, and cheap beer.
Best Hikes Near YOU!
Just because it is the winter season, this doesn’t mean that you can’t go hiking! Sometimes, the snow doesn’t fall until late in the year, so you can go hiking with your trail runners or sneakers with no issue. Other times, you might need snow gear earlier on in the year. But even so, there are tons of trails that are fun for you to hike in the alpine conditions, and the snowfall often makes it even prettier than ever before!
First off, if you are an experienced hiker and you have the right snow gear, we love doing Bear Mountain in Sedona for a fun winter hike. Although this entire hike is just 5 miles long, which will take between two and three hours during prime summer conditions, it can take longer in icy and snowy weather. We recommend giving yourself around four to five hours to complete this hike, as it brings you more than 2,000 feet of elevation high up into the sky. But the challenge is well worth the reward! You will be able to gaze out at the pine forests, lit-up town down below, and the fir trees that dot the hills below the peak. Not to mention, you will be able to see the red rocks of the desert, steep slopes, and wildlife that make Arizona so magical.
For those who want something easier for new hikers or snowshoers during your Sedona visit, we can’t think of anything better than Devil’s Bridge. This easy hike is just 1.8 miles each way, making it a shorter couple-hour hike that offers great views of the red cliffs, green forests, and picturesque bridge that is a great photo opportunity for you and your travel companions.
Another great hike that won’t take long for beginners and new hikers is Cathedral Rock. This is one of the most popular hiking paths in the state, but with fresh snowfall, it can be less crowded than other times. We recommend doing this hike early in the morning so you can have the path to yourself. The path is super short but requires more time for scrambling towards the top of the rock, which offers great views of the nearby red rocks and forests. Those with lower fitness levels, or with small children, should take care in the gully towards the end of the trek.
Do you want a short hike that isn’t too taxing? Fay Canyon is a great choice! We love this winter hike for older adults and younger kids who are not expert hikes. Fay Canyon is a short and flat trail that takes just between one and two hours for the entire hike, while still providing far-reaching views, great scenery through the bright green forest, and rest points to chill out and have a drink or a picnic lunch.

We recommend going to the Arizona Nordic Village to get more information on the trails, rent snowshoes and other winter gear, and get a map to use during your excursion. This village is less than 10 miles from the center of the city, so you can easily get there in less than 15 minutes from any one of our homes. Plus, once you’re done snowshoeing, you make full use of the amenities at the village, including snowshoe rental, a yurt to relax and chill out with a hot drink after snowshoeing, beer to chill out after an intense sweat session, or a hot chocolate for your kids.
Or, if you want to try somewhere new for your Flagstaff getaway, then we highly recommend going to Kendrick Park. Kendrick Park and Kendrick Peak are two great spots for you to head to for a full-day outing, including easy trails through the park and a towering mountain pass near the peak that is great for a hard hike to the top of one of the best viewpoints in the entire state.
Another popular spot that we love going for snowshoeing, relaxing, bird watching, or cross-country skiing is Humphreys Peak. This peak is the highest in the entire state, coming in at just over 12,600 feet at the tallest point. So, it is no joke! Even if you’re not a huge fan of heights, you can still do the paths surrounding the base of the mountain. For those who are keen on winter hiking or off-piste skiing, the slopes and snowshoeing options here are great. Take the 10+ mile Humphrey’s Trail to reach the top of the mountain, and don’t forget your camera for some of the best Insta-worthy photos of the entire trip!
The final mountain that we think is a must-do for your snowshoeing adventure is Slate Mountain! Slate Mountain offers a 4-mile round-trip hike that is a great way for beginners to become more comfortable with snowshoes and offers just the right amount of challenge for moderate alpinists. This 4-mile round trip path isn’t for the faint of heart, though; the uphill parts and the steepness make it a great workout that will have you sweating by the end! But trust us, the view from the top of Slate Mountain is well worth the effort.
Skiing Down a Freshly Covered Mountain
The next must-do activity for those who come to Arizona from far away to get an adrenaline rush and enjoy the beauty of nature is skiing. We highly recommend starting with a day trip to the nearby Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort so you can check out the impressive views, large drops, and lush green pine forests that surround the resort and après ski lodging. You can choose from any one of the 700 acres of skiing meadows that work with your desired difficulty.
Once you want to try somewhere new, the Sunrise Park Resort that is a few hours north of the downtown of Flagstaff is a great spot for you to head to for a full-day or multi-day adventure. This resort near Greer offers the largest ski resort in the state, three towering mountain peaks, and ski schools for beginners.
Lastly, the Flagstaff Snow Park is a great spot for kids who want to go tubing instead of skiing! If you are not a fan of seeing your kids whizz down the ski slopes at break-neck speeds, then the Snow Park could be your best bet to still have an adrenaline rush, keep your kids entertained, and have fun in the process. The Flagstaff Sno Park offers the best tubing and food trucks for you to enjoy during your trip here.
Grab a Hot Cup of Coffee
The next must-do activity during your Flagstaff vacation if you are a bit cold after a full day of skiing or walking around the town is to grab a hot cup of coffee or cup of cocoa with your family! Luckily for you, there are tons of tasty and mouth-watering cafes that dot the downtown area of Flagstaff for you to check out during your vacation here. Mocha, anyone?
First off, you NEED to visit Lux North if you are in Flagstaff for more than a couple of days. Lux North is a little-known spot that is popular among locals, making it a great non-tourist destination that offers perfect coffee for take away when you are on the move to get to a nearby ski slope or snowshoeing path. We recommend getting one of their espresso-laden drinks, like a honey lavender latte with soy milk, and a flaky cardamom bun or croissant to pack in your backpack for a full-day skiing adventure.
The next stop on your caffeine journey should be Lund Canyon. If you have been on a Euro adventure in the past, you might be missing the cafe and coffee culture. In this case, Lund Canyon is going to be your new haven in Flagstaff, featuring an industrial-style cafe that is great for remote workers and reflects a Scandinavian vibe.
Another European-influenced cafe is Foret, a French cafe and coffee shop that also serves up some of the tastiest brunch dishes in the entire city. We recommend grabbing the avocado toast with an iced oat milk latte. If you want something on the go or a pastry to go with your coffee, the cinnamon bun with a hot cup of coffee is the perfect way to wake up from a long day of snowshoeing or snowboarding! Plus, if the weather is warm and the sun is shining when you get here, we recommend sitting on the patio to people-watch and soak in the perfect mountain views.

Firstly, you need to go to Martanne’s at least once during your vacation here. Martanne’s is a local and tourist favorite due to its Tex-Mex dishes that hit the spot every single time. It doesn’t matter what you get – you are going to want to come back for more. We have tried the green chili chilaquiles and they are the perfect blend of cheese-goodness and spice to start your day! If you would rather have something less spicy, the huevos rancheros with eggs over easy is a savory and tasty way to fuel up for a big ski session later in the day. Plus, it is right in the heart of downtown Flagstaff, so you can easily walk here after you ski off the slopes or wake up after a night of partying and dancing in one of the local bars!
Next, we can’t recommend La Bella Via enough if you are an egg lover. Head here if you are in the mood for creamy and savory eggs benedict with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. Even if you are more of a sweets person first thing in the morning, we guarantee that the pancakes here will truly curb your cravings. Plus, they make pancakes in the shapes of koalas for kids to be entertained with their food — and love the taste!
Another popular spot among tourists is the Tourist Home – they named this restaurant very creatively! We recommend going here when you want to get brunch or breakfast in bulk to bring back home for a nice treat, since they offer flaky and buttery pastries, deserts, and danishes every day of the week. Plus, you can get a hot cup of coffee, strong latte, or bloody mary if you dine in here for a morning treat. Sit outside if the weather cooperates and gaze at the people walking by on a Sunday morning!
