Attendees are required to be in swim attire in order to use the pool and water slides and the only pets allowed are ADA service dogs. July 4th Firecracker Express

One of the top attractions found in the Sedona area is the Verde Canyon Railroad. Get to Hiking

Drive Along the Scenic Byway

Sedona nestled right here in Red Rock Country that offer a towering and beautiful addition to the horizon. The red rocks can be seen in full detail from the comfort of your vehicle when you cruise down the Red Rock Scenic Byway. This stretch of road is officially named State Route 179, but that sounds way less enjoyable. The Red Rock Scenic Byway starts at exit 298 off Interstate 17. You will find a 7.5 mile stretch of road that has the incredible Red Rock Mountains in the backdrop. The scenic byway has been referred to as a museum of its own, as you will see sights of Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, Coconino National Forest, and more. There are plenty of scenic overlooks to stop at during the drive to get the best views of all. There are no tolls making this the perfect free activity during your stay in Sedona.

Tour the Chapel of the Holy Cross

When you are staying in Sedona it will be hard pressed to miss a glimpse of the Chapel of the Holy Cross. This cultural site is on the edge of the Red Rock Country and its stunning design is hard to miss. This chapel was designed by Marguerite Brunswig Staude, a student of the infamous Frank Lloyd Wright, and its design is like no other. The chapel is just four miles from Sedona’s main intersection making it easy to get to. Getting to the chapel is best enjoyed with a hike up the mountain. The trail to the chapel is only 1.3 miles out and back but has a moderate uphill climb on the way up. A visit to the chapel is free to explore and is reported to be a relaxing and tranquil experience for visitors. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a popular attraction in the area so planning ahead is optimal. Make sure to explore earlier in the morning before the midday crowd gets too busy. Visitors can also attend the Taize Prayer Service that takes place on Mondays at 5:00 PM.

Hike the Devil’s Bridge Trail

Sedona is home to some of the most popular trails in the state of Arizona. In addition to the Chapel of the Holy Cross Trail you can also find the Devil’s Bridge Trail here in the area. Devil’s Bridge is a site that is on everyone’s bucket list for Sedona. It is the largest natural sandstone arch and resembles a bridge as it juts over the valley. As such it has become one of the busiest hiking trails in the area. The trail is a 4.2-mile hike that will lead you straight to the bridge. The trail allows you to snap photos while you peer up at the 50-foot-high arch, but the real fun is walking out onto the bridge itself. Trek up the steep incline to reach the base of the bridge. There are typically people waiting in line to get a photo of the experience with wait times being longer later in the day. Make sure to hike up to the bridge early in the morning to beat the crowd. You may even have a chance to catch a glimpse of local wildlife including bobcats, black bears, coyotes, and javelinas during the hike so make sure you stay vigilant on the trail.

Now that you are up in Northern Arizona with an increase of elevation you can get something that is getting harder to find: a look at the night sky without light pollution getting in the way. Sedona might be in Northern Arizona, but it still sees some of the high temperatures of summer for the state. Don’t forget hiking up to Cathedral Rock, where another stunning hike awaits you. This is a great hike for sunset but can also be enjoyed at any time of the day. While the hike is only 1.4 miles round trip, it is up an extremely steep incline. Most hikers will need to climb up on their hands and knees and start the hike around an hour and a half before sunset to make it in time. Make sure to bring a flashlight for the way back down if you are planning on staying up there past sunset.

This event is put on by the City of Sedona, making it the official start of spring in the area. A Celebration of Spring is part carnival and part egg hunt that allows individuals of all ages to enjoy the fun.

Bring the whole family to this event where over 22,000 Easter eggs will be hidden in the area. The egg hunt is absolutely free for children to participate in, and they will be divided into age categories so everyone has a fair chance to grab as many as possible. Age groups will start with ages 0 to 2, followed by 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 12 to finish off the activity for the day. Children participating in the egg hunt DO need to bring their own egg basket. The egg hunt will start right at 10:30 for the youngest age bracket, so make sure to arrive on time to participate.

There will also be various other activities for the children to enjoy. This includes a petting zoo with loveable farm animals to pet. A meet and greet with the Easter Bunny will also take place so make sure to grab a pic of the kids with him! Don’t forget about the carnival rides and attractions that are an absolute blast. The Celebration of Spring will be in its 13th consecutive year this spring and will take place on March 30th at Posse Grounds Park in Sedona.

This is a music festival that celebrates classical music from a variety of periods, including Baroque and Contemporary. The festival first originated in 2016, when pianist Sandrine Erdely-Sayo and narrator Elizabeth Pena showed a shared interest for piano music and poetry. Howl-O-Ween Costume Parade

A visit around Halloween does not always land right on the weekend leading up to the holiday. If you find yourself in Sedona in the middle of October and have a friendly pup with you, you can make it to the annual Howl-O-Ween Costume Parade here in town. This parade for costumed dogs takes place at the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village here in town. Participants are encouraged to prepare lively floats and have your dogs in their best costume for this cute and loveable event. There will be various cash prizes and trophies handed out to the best dressed pups; categories for prizes include Craziest Canine, Doggone Cutest, and Leader of the Pack. All proceeds of Howl-O-Ween Costume Parade benefit the Human Society of Sedona. Don’t miss out on this exciting event here in the area!

 

Uptown Trick or Treat

Finding a place for your children to go trick-or-treating when you’re at home can already be a stressful factor, and it can be even more so when spending Halloween away. Don’t fret, as Sedona sponsors the Uptown Trick or Treat right here in the city. On Halloween Monday 10/31 families will be able to traverse Uptown Sedona for a safe and inviting trick or treat experience. Parking will be available for the event along with a shuttle service. Participating merchant locations will be made known with signs so you know where to go. The event is absolutely free to attend and takes place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Uptown Sedona.

 

Fright Night on the Verde Canyon Railroad

One of the most popular attractions nearby Sedona is the Verde Canyon Railroad. They offer year-round four-hour train rides where you can explore the beautiful Northern Arizona scenery from the comfort of your train cart. The trips offer fascinating visuals along with access to tasty food and drink. This Halloween season you can enjoy a spooky event like no other with Fright Night put on by Verde Canyon Railroad. Every Friday and Saturday night starting on September 15th and running through until Halloween night you will be able to enjoy this frightening haunted house. Instead of a train ride, you will be tasked with escaping the clutches of the haunted railcar. Expect to see a terrifying monster squad along with a dark train maze. This experience may be scary and is not recommended for young children who spook easily. If you prefer the classic train ride experience but with a fall twist, make sure you ride aboard the Ales on Rails train ride that runs from September 12th though Halloween Day. You can enjoy samples of delicious Arizona craft beer before you take a scenic train ride complete with a champagne toast. Fall has never tasted so good!

 

Visit the Haunted Town of Jerome

Northern Arizona communities are all located close to one another and are easy to get to when you have a vehicle on hand. One of the best ways to spend any Halloween adventure is by taking the short trek over to our neighbors in Jerome. This local town is known for its recent hauntings that have been caused by a long and rich mining history in the area. Due to Jerome’s notoriety for hauntings, it is especially popular around Halloween. The fun starts in Jerome with the annual Fireman’s Ball that takes place the Saturday before each Halloween. The event is sponsored by Jerome’s fire department and takes place at Spook Hall. It is a lively event that is remembered fondly each year. Make sure to take part in a walking ghost tour put on by Jerome Ghost Tours. Their incredible tours offer exclusive access to local haunted locations including Haskins House, Old High School, Auditorium & Boiler Room, and Jerome Cemetery. Take the Red Rock Scenic Byway

Road trips call for long drives along the highway that showcase the beautiful views around you. Sedona is also home to the Red Rock Scenic Byway. This 8-mile-long stretch of Highway 179 will take you along some of the most famous landmarks in the area. Visitors can hop on the Red Rock Scenic Byway in between mile markers 302.5 up to 310.0. Expect to travel along Oak Creek, Bell Rock, and more with a nice cruise on this highway. What a perfect road trip activity!

If you are in the mood for some vacation shopping look no further than Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village.
